Practice Schedule
C team (10:15-10:55) - beginners, any age. Need to understand the basics of and be able to complete multiple lengths of each stroke unassisted. Coaches and/or 13 and over “helpers” will be in the water with these swimmers at the beginning of the season, but the goal is to move towards swimming independence so time with "helpers in the water" will decrease as swimmers progress. This is generally at least a THREE TIERED group for the first few weeks; some years levels condense as the season progresses. Goal is to move all swimmers who will not need a second summer on C team to B by the end of summer.
B Team (9:15-10:15) - any age/experience - surpasses C level; must have a good beginning knowledge of all 4 strokes but usually needs additional stroke work. We will focus on legal swims, technique, starts, turns. Practice is mostly 25s at the beginning of the season and builds from there. Swimmers must not cry or need parent intervention during practices. B team will have sublevels as this group has a wide range of ability. (500-1500 yards)
AB Team (9:00-10:15) - Must qualify for B team, plus have at least 1 summer of swim team experience or equivalent. Must be able to dive, be willing to work on flip turns, underwater pulls, etc. Must be able to complete distances without stopping to hang on the ropes or changing strokes mid swim, preferred to have a Senior County Cut in at least 2 strokes. Must swim all 4 strokes legally 95% of the time, Requires good listening skills, maturity, willingness to learn about and complete sets, ability to follow directions. Practice focus transitions towards building endurance and speed and a little less on stroke development. (1500-2000 yards)
ATEAM (8:00-9:30)- Must qualify for AB plus, must be at least 9 years old, must do a flip turn in free and back, underwater pull of start/turn in breast, understand open and transitional turns and be able to complete all 4 strokes legally (barring occasional human error). Should understand the concept of a “set” and “intervals” and be able to follow multi-step directions. Must be able to share a lane/circle swim. Practices will likely be challenging for non-year-round swimmers (approx 2000 -2500 yards)
Seniors (8:00-9:30)- A team advanced swimmers. Many of these swimmers are year round swimmers. Most swimmers at this level are in high school. A few upper middle school swimmers may be selected if they have the required skills HOWEVER SUMMER SWIM SHOULD BE A TIME TO FOCUS ON THE FUN OF SWIM TEAM. Being with swimmers of your own social group/age is usually more important than "leveling up" Practices will likely be challenging for non-year-round swimmers (approx 2500-3000 yards)
